The Effect of Lormetazepam on Sleep Disturbances

Abstract
|
|
|
The effect of lormetazepam were studied of 98 insomnia patients including 46 males and 52 female, who were treated in the Dept. of Psychiatry of Severance Hospital during the period from the begining of Jan. 1985 until the June 1986. The study was conducted that, at an oral dosage of 1mg per day for 7 days, lormetazepam and 5mg per day for 7 days, nitrazepam of 49 insomnia patients respectively.
The results were as follows:
1. Lormetazepam has a hypnotic effect superior to that of nitrazepam.
2. Lormetazepam does not lead to any significant occurence of side effects, in particular hangover effect, in comparision to nitrazepam.
3. The overall assessment of the therapeutic results of lormetazepam were very good 14(28.6%), goo´s 27(55.1%), moderate 8(26.3%) respectively.
Our results demonstrates that the superiority of lormetazepam over nitrazepam. But further stud such as long-term effects, tolerance as chronic use, objective effects of withdrawl of the drug and th effects of social behaviors is needed of prove the safety drug of insomnia patients.
